Kids Say

(slurpee on the way back from Yaya's house last week)

Iain, praying: Dear Jesus, thank You for Cory's nose. And for his mouth. In Jesus' name, amen.

Iain, telling the Christmas story, when asked what the wise men brought: Gold cents and myrrh.

Jeremy was telling Iain what dads do.
Jeremy: I'm taking care of you, because I'm a dad and that what dads do. And one day, you'll be a dad, and what will you do?
Iain: I will eat gumballs.

Iain, to me: Fabulous job vacuuming, Mama.

In the middle of a big group of people who were talking (and not to Iain) in our living room, Iain decided to get the attention back on himself by yelling: Holy moly!

Running around outside with Noah: I am a winner! I am a winner! (Is this some kind of self-talk that two-year-olds need to improve their self-image?)

Making a car drive up a wall, the narration went like this: You keep trying to go up the mountain, but you can't handle it! You can't handle it! But you keep trying and trying and... CRASH! (and the car, predictably, falls to the floor)

Unloading the dishwasher, another monologue: Here you go, Mama. Here you go. Now one of dese. Now dat one. Now here's a one. Now here's a bake-able one. Now I come to dis side. Here you go, Mama. Now I get dis bake-able one. Now dat one. Here you go, Mama.

I told Iain that he needed to give Cory the cars that belonged to him (to Cory, that is), if Cory wanted them. Iain found a better solution: Here, Cory, go in the New Room and find some-kin to do. Look at all dose toys in dere.

When Cory and Iain were arguing about a toy just now, I heard squealing (from Cory) and Iain yelling: Fight! Fight! Fight!

I Tried!

Dear Grammy,

Mama wanted to take a picture of us in our new pajamas, just for you. But it was way more fun to wrestle.

Love,
Iain and Cory

Christmas 08 - The S/L/B/B Family Edition

(Read: the last names of my side of the family - those who were present for Christmas, that is.)

Christmas Eve with my family is a big dinner, a name exchange, Christmas carols, the reading of the Christmas story. And this year: dancing, bouncing, hyper children (including but not limited to my oldest son) and an unfortunate incident involving pants that were too big for said son.

That part was not captured on film. At least, not on mine.

(note Cory's favorite way to use a pacifier - bottom lip over bottom of said pacifier)

(I'm bummed that the sound on these videos is so bad! On the first one, Iain and Luke are yelling about falling down. On the second, Cory bangs a horn on a chair - the percussion to our caroling - and the piano accompaniment is by Iain. My little musical family!)

Christmas Day involves a breakfast or brunch, stockings, presents, games, naps...

p.s. Many of the pictures on this post were taken by Kelsey. Thanks Kels!

Williamtons

A few days before Christmas, Aunt Kelsey came over to give Iain a present born out of a moment of genius: Williamtons! For the uninitiated, William's Wish Wellingtons is a kids' movie (or really, a movie made of a series of five-minute animated BBC tv shorts) that Iain adores. It's British, which explains why our two year old sometimes says "Brilliant puddles!" and super-cute and not at all annoying. How many kid shows can you say that about? Anyway, William, the blonde protagonist, in the first episode gets a pair of magic red wellingtons which enable him to make wishes (for a dog, to be a pirate, etc). Iain calls the boots Williamtons. Here's the synopsis, for you Anglophiles: When William's Mum bought him a new pair of boots he discovered a note inside: "These are Wish Wellingtons, put them on and make a wish. William could now wish himself anywhere in the world or ask for anything he wanted - which sometimes got him into a spot of bother.

Kelsey found not only some red wellingtons, but a whole William outfit! Unfortunately, Iain insisted that the boots are not Williamtons, but just boots. However, he did make several wishes in true William style (scrunching up the face, making fists). He wears the boots all the time, has already been splashing in those brilliant puddles, and now does not correct us when we call them wellingtons.

You know you're gonna have a lot of fun when William puts on his wellingtons!
